A young man in my hometown has a very special bond with animals — and they, with him.
Lucas is 27 years old and he was born in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, where I live with my family. He was born with cerebral palsy, microcephaly, seizure disorder and cortical blindness. He cannot walk or talk, but he is a happy, healthy young man who can swim like a fish and loves all animals.
Lucas and his family have moved to California, and in an email to my daughter, Mikkel, his mother said, “We have not had an animal yet that did not like Lucas. We also have two Dobermans that absolutely love Lucas and they get so excited when Lucas is taken out of his wheelchair and put on the floor with them. It’s very clear to see they love him and they are very protective of him.”
She went on, “I swear, animals are drawn to Lucas and they are never afraid of him or his wheelchair. Blue is one of the those animals. We took Lucas over to see the horses this morning. He loves being outside and these pictures of Lucas and Blue speak for themselves.”
“When he realized that Lucas wasn’t going to pet him, Blue just laid his head in Lucas’ lap and the next thing I know they are both sleeping! Is that too cute or what? So glad I had my camera with me!”
God bless you, Lucas, your family, and all the animals you love and who love you!
